How much 2020 changed the Best of the Year lists so far First Half

This is a page for film lists that I’ve created over time. Some will be outdated, because I rushed them because of sudden circumstances i.e. Roger Ebert’s death. The rest should be good. Start from the top. 1908: The Fatal Hour directed by D. W. Griffith 1909: A Drunkard’s Reformation directed by D. W. Griffith 1915: No longer has a film as its Birth of a Nation directed by D. W. Ni No Kuni II ends up as my Game of 2018

Originally posted on Arthouse Anime:
I was debating between Red Dead Redemption 2 and Yakuza 6. I didn’t play Yakuza Kiwami 2 or Judge Eyes yet. Dragon Ball fighterZ was a dark horse, but has an awful story mode. I was going go pick Yakuza 6 after playing it. Red Dead Redemption 2 after the hype, the choices with the couple but some people got bored watching me play and it starts slow. A lot of people liked Yakuza 6 but I didn’t like the options albeit I later heard about secret bosses. Yahtzee is a big Yakuza fan. The… Continue reading Ni No Kuni II ends up as my Game of 2018

Queen of the South, “Cuarenta Minutos” review

So after finally having some time to watch this show without fighting for a tv, or watching an exciting sports game, I got to it. It delivers what the trailers advertise: a show about drug cartels on network television. A cartel boss threatens to drug a woman to get her to work for her, The woman counters by keeping information inside herself to gain and not lose power, Bank negotiations and amnesty discussions are in place to have the cartel boss continue with situations. They discuss again making their negotiation an annual deal It’s not a tight script and a … Continue reading Queen of the South, “Cuarenta Minutos” review

Taxi Driver 40th Anniversary thought: you talking bout me?

Please note: this may not be true since I did not watch the film recently but just a random thought. In the scene where Travis Bickle talks in the mirror to himself, is the shot actually of the audience looking into the mirror imagining themselves as Travis Bickle? Ones inner demons and human’s wrath for violence? I’ll need an actual rewatching of the film to confirm this but the fact that he was a war veteran could be a possibility of this. The 25th Anniversary of Boyz n the Hood: beginning few scenes

I thought the film was so enjoyable because it represented a life I wasn’t a part of, a reality within the virtual reality I lived in. However, this second time I watched it I appreciated more of its direction. First is the airplane. You figure it would be a symbol of hope but it’s far away after bullet shots and a stop sign, a stop sign symbolizing the lack of ability to escape or progress an obstacle. Rules of society. You hear an airplane motor creating a feeling of crashing being down. A shooting is discussed while the kids are … Continue reading The 25th Anniversary of Boyz n the Hood: beginning few scenes

Marketing by Idiots 101: War Dogs

So, before watching the Nice Guys, I was thinking yay! Quiet theatre. Good film for me, bad for the company, since they only made 20% of their money back so far. Pretty good movie, but let’s get onto the trailers.   So I heard about this movie for a while. It started off pretty bad considering that it came from a sell out no talent critic like Jeffrey Lyons. But fuck it! Whatever! Comedy on warmongering starring Jonah Hill and Miles Teller. Jonah Hill’s been in some really smart movies, and Miles Teller, whatever you think of Fantastic Four (and … Continue reading Marketing by Idiots 101: War Dogs

Darren Foley’s lastest video: Music in Film

This was a bit unconventional. No dialogue or analysis. Just a really good put together music video. (The music in the 80s/90s cartoon worked, so why not?) And it was really cool. If you follow him on social media, and suggested an idea, it was probably in the video! I recall a lot from suggestions that I saw in the vid and it worked really well!
